We are holding elections in Hilary Term 2020 for the 2020-21 GeogSoc Committee. Keep reading to find out about the positions available and how to apply!
The GeogSoc Committee is made up of seven members. Anyone is welcome to apply for a role - you don't even need to be a geography student! None of the roles require much previous experience and the current Committee will be on hand to help with the transition process. If you have any questions about applying or what the positions involve then please email and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Oxford Geography Society President is a rewarding position which involves steering the Society for the upcoming year. It's your role to ensure events are delivered, members are engaged, and to be the first point of contact for the Society. If you have a vision for how you would like Geography Society to evolve, don't hesitate to apply for President!
- BENEDICT GARDNER
IT & MARKETING OFFICER
I’m responsible for publicising all our events and letting people know what we’re up to. This means posting on social media, updating the website, and sending out emails. I also make sure that our branding is kept up-to-date and the same across all media. This is a great role if you want to make a real contribution to growing the Society - and don't worry, you don't need to have any super technical computer science skills!
- CARINA WILLIAMS
As Secretary, I make sure the Society's records and emails are in order, and write the minutes at our meetings. This role is great experience for someone who enjoys organising, admin work, or wants experience with minute writing and general Society coordination.
- JAMIE SCRAGG
The role of treasurer involves managing GeogSoc’s finances, including budgeting for events, arranging floats and keeping track of money going into and coming out of the account. The treasurer also helps out more generally at society events and ensures society money is kept safe and spent well. It’s a great role if you want experience of managing a budget!
- INES GETAZ
My role is to help spread the word about all the fab projects going on around Oxford to Geog students and to liaise with them to raise the profile of Geography! I also help lobby the department and wider Uni to do more on access and outreach - if you like making a difference and enjoy meeting new people this is a great role for you!
- JAY BHANDARI
As Events Officer, I help coordinate events on the GeogSoc term card. The role involves liaising with potential speakers and arranging the logistics of their visit. Let’s not forget Colouring and Cocktails - from ordering supplies through to helping the bar run smoothly, you have a blast as Events Officer.
- LAURA MITCHELL
ALUMNI & CAREERS OFFICER
This role is focused towards boosting the alumni network of the society and informing members of their possible career choices having mainly taken geography. This involves organising careers events (at least one a term) and answering calls/reaching out to those who may be interested in speaking at the society, as well as liasing with the alumni department of the School of Geography.
- FRANKIE BLASE
We've had a brilliant time being the 2019-20 GeogSoc Committee, and would definitely recommend it to everyone! Being on the Committee allows you to plan exciting events, get to know people from across the university, and make a real difference to the Society. Not to mention the opportunity to improve all-important skills like organisation and teamwork (essential both for life and for CVs...)!
