OUGS is led by a dedicated, hard-working team of students who are elected annually. Check out our bios below to meet the 2022-23 Committee, and don't be afraid to say hello if you see us around!
YOUR 2022-23 COMMITTEE
Hey I’m Emily, a second year geographer at Mansfield and your new geogsoc president! My job is to make sure the society runs smoothly, so we can continue to put on exciting events throughout the year. We’ve got a great committee together this year and I look forward to working closely with them to make the society a place for everyone. In true geography fashion, I love travelling, climbing mountains, and I have an unhealthy obsession with plants (currently about 20). Please reach out to me or the committee with any questions you have about the society or applications, or even just for a chat (about plants?), always happy to help! :)
Hey, I’m N’Dea and I’m a second year geographer at St. Hilda’s. I’ll be the Treasurer of OUGS for 2022/2023! My role is to make sure that there’s enough money in the budget to put on all of your favourite events. I’m a pint sized physical geographer who’s excited to work as part of the first all female committee and meet all of you! Feel free to talk to me about natural hazards, rock and metal music or just life in general.
Hi! I’m Eleanor, a second year Geographer at Mansfield College and I’m excited to be your new Access Officer. My job is to keep the Alternative Prospectus looking fresh, as well as working with the School of Geography’s Access and Outreach Officer to encourage more people from disadvantaged and state school backgrounds to apply for Geography at Oxford. I’m very much a human geographer, with a particular interest in human rights and development, but outside Geography I’m a keen (terrible) footballer (left-back, for anyone that’s interested!). Don’t hesitate to contact me with your ideas :)
Hey, I’m Rachel, a third year geographer at Hertford College. I will be the Secretary for this committee which involves organising the committee meetings, memberships and mailing lists. I absolutely love human geography with a particular interest in the geography of conflict as well as telling everyone else that their degree has some element of geography in it. Outside of academics I love travelling and trying new things as well an obsession for anything to do with food. I really look forward to working with the new committee and creating some unforgettable events for the geography cohort to enjoy and be inspired by.
IT & Marketing Officer
Hello! I'm Amy, a third year geographer at Hertford and your IT & Marketing Officer for the year, meaning I'm the one behind all the socials. I tell myself I'm mainly a physical geographer but I enjoy a bit of everything (except statistics!). I'm so excited to work in such a brilliant committee this year so stay tuned for big plans. Outside of my degree, I enjoy long walks, sampling every bubble tea shop in Oxford, and reading in Blackwell's for unreasonably long periods of time.
Hi I'm Habiba Khan, a second year Geographer at Mansfield College and also the new Events Officer! My job is to plan and organise events to make sure they run smoothly. I can't wait to meet all of you as a member of the first all-female committee! I'm a mixed bag who likes geopolitics and thinking solutions to environmental problems. Outside of Geography I draw (badly) and am obsessed with trying new foods. Feel free to talk events, Geography or anything you like!
